Flights are at a 10-year high this year, so here’s how I’m saving on my holiday car rental. No full price, and no jumping through hoops.
1️⃣ Book while logged in.
2️⃣ Let them pick your car. If you’re flexible, the “manager’s special” gets you whatever they didn’t rent, for less.
3️⃣ Skip airport pickup. A nearby location cut my rental by $44.
4️⃣ Prepay if you can. You can’t change your plans, but it saved me $200 on my Christmas week booking!
Discounts vary by company and can’t always be combined, but you’ve got four levers to pull.
💡 Bonus: Your credit card or car insurance may cover rentals, so you could skip the $30+/day coverage (check the fine print!). And Costco Travel waives the additional driver fee, usually about $15/day.
